The Old School House

The Old School House is situated in the small town in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, situated on the River Goyt. Whaley Bridge is approximately 16 miles south of Manchester and 7 miles north of Buxton. Our beautiful views embrace local farms and countryside, with livestock to wake us up in the mornings. We as an organisation recognise and celebrate the fact that we as adults are on a journey, we are constantly looking to improve and change. We want young people to realise that the chaos and crisis they may have experienced, or still experience, can be calmed and change can be positive and rewarding.

The Old School House can take up to four young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. We are a warm and nurturing team who emphasise on the ‘real’ values of bringing children up with consistent rules and boundaries, consistent positive role models and focus on building up self-esteem and confidence. The team specialises in CSE and MFC, and have external training in attachment models and theories.

The young people are involved fully in the daily running of the home, including the decoration, food, activities and their feelings of living at the home. They have their own bedrooms which they have personalised to their individual tastes and styles. We start independence programmes with the young people from being 15 years old, to ensure that they build the skills they will need for independence. The staff team are very motivated and enthusiastic and have high aspirations for each of our young people, who we hope whilst in our care learn to feel this way about themselves.
