Sunnydale Farm provides medium to long-term care and accommodation for up to 6 young people with complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. At Sunnydale Farm we focus on the young people’s experience in the home. We offer a happy, homely, safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for all the young people to help them aspire to and achieve their full potential. We want young people to have a place which offers them a unique experience where issues and concerns which have affected them can be addressed positively and where they can progress to new heights. We have a staff team who are motivated, passionate and committed to working with young people and pursuing the best outcome for each child. As a medium to long-term placement, we aim to help young people return to their families however where this is not possible / appropriate, we aim to assist each young person to achieve a permanent placement appropriate to his or her long-term needs.
Sunnydale Farm is based in the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands. The location of the home provides young people with a unique experience to try activities they may not have had or get the opportunity to do again! The young people can try kayaking, rock climbing, river walks, caving, fishing, golf and go-carting to name a few! The young people’s experiences will be captured so they have positive memories to take away with them when they leave Sunnydale Farm. The home is expansive so there is lots for young people to explore and also gives them space from each other, which teenagers tend to need from time to time! The home consists of two buildings, The Cottage which has an independent living area to promote independent living skills that the older teenagers move into in preparation for moving to semi/independent accommodation and The Farmhouse that accommodates 3 young people at a time who may need closer supervision/support to develop their skills and/or regulate their behaviour, teenagers can be challenging!
At Sunnydale Farm, we care for very challenging young people who have emotional, social and behavioural difficulties as a result of past emotional/ sexual or physical trauma. Although Sunnydale Farm accommodates young people with a range of behaviours, the staff have expertise in caring for young people with self-harm issues, those who go missing from care and whom are vulnerable to child sexual exploitation and young people who present with extreme violence and aggression. The home mainly manages behaviour by verbal means and use of consequence and reward, and has been praised for the lengths that the staff team go to in order to keep the young people safe. The young people and staff are what makes Sunnydale Farm special. We believe young people should feel valued and learn to value others in an environment/culture of care, nurture and understanding.
